A few weeks ago I attended an inspiring business network seminar in Ballito, hosted by the North Coast Coffee Club. The energy in the room was contagious, and the group was hungry to learn how to grow in the age of AI.
Recently, I had the pleasure of facilitating the Club's first Generative AI Productivity Workshop — and it confirmed something I keep seeing everywhere I teach this: the people most excited about AI are rarely the ones you'd expect.
The Room Told Its Own Story
The diversity in that room was fantastic. Small business owners. Managers. Consultants. An author. A home designer. Active retired professionals. Even a university student. On paper, almost nothing in common. In the room, exactly one shared question: how does this actually help me?
It proved, once again, that no matter your role, AI can be a genuinely powerful ally — not just for people already working in tech, and not just for large corporates with dedicated innovation budgets.
The Same Framework I Use With Corporate Clients
I shared the same structure I use with every client, corporate or community, to make sure everyone walked away with practical, immediate wins:
Understanding the "Why" — how Generative AI actually works, in plain terms.
Navigating the Landscape — exploring free LLMs and finding the right tool for the task at hand.
Prompt Mastery — moving beyond basic searches into effective, deliberate prompt design.
Real-World Application — applying "power prompts" directly to daily challenges and workflows, not hypothetical ones.
The Best Part of the Day
The best part, every time, is watching the lightbulb moments happen in real time — members building their own resources in front of me, using their own real tasks as the material.
One member summed it up afterwards: "This is brilliant. Thanks for a great session today, Graeme! I am so pleased I've met you and had the opportunity to attend your AI workshop."
Huge thanks to the North Coast Coffee Club for the opportunity to empower such a vibrant local community.
The Question Worth Asking
Is your community or team ready to move from AI-curious to AI-productive? That's really the only question that matters — not whether AI is relevant to what you do, because at this point, it almost always is.
